What's New in 2026: Independent Voters Can Now Vote in Primaries!
For the first time in New Mexico history, independent voters and Decline-to-State voters can participate in primary elections without changing their registration. This historic change means approximately 380,000+ New Mexicans who didn't affiliate with a party can now help choose candidates in Democratic or Republican primaries.
This is what fairness looks like. Democracy works best when everyone has a seat at the table.

The 2026 primary election on June 2, 2026 offers something special: real competition. Nineteen New Mexico House seats have primary challenges, and multiple candidates are running for governor and other statewide offices. When voters have choices, politicians must earn every vote.
